2. You Will Better Identify When and Why You Use

Another important thing that will happen during therapy is that you will get down to the root of the problem. It is important to determine why you started using the first place, the poor coping mechanisms that caused you to continue using, as well as identifying when you are most likely to use again. By knowing yourself and your weakness with the addiction, you can avoid it. For instance, if you always have the desire to use after a fight with a family member, perhaps during the initial periods of recovery, you will be asked to limit interaction with that person.

Also, if you generally act out with certain people, or in certain places, you will avoid these places and people. This is the best way to break the habits and patterns of self-destructive behaviors.

3. Don't Try To Do It Alone

Lastly, don't make the mistake of thinking that you can do it all on your own. Willpower is not enough. An addicts mind has been compromised, and you need someone to help you break the cycle and move forward.
